"continuum"

Park YongHo

November 4 – December 3, 2026 | Gallery Dasun, Korea

Featuring the recent works of artist Park YongHo, this exhibition, Continuum, is the culmination of the time and labor the artist has quietly accumulated over the past three years.

The motif of the work stems from a fundamental question: "What lies beyond?" His childhood curiosity about the unknown led to an exploration of the universe and quantum mechanics, which soon transformed from a physical expansion into a conceptual one. The artist realizes that humans are not the center of the world, and that even the world and natural landscapes we perceive are merely a fragment created through the interaction between reality and perception. If it is impossible to fully describe the nature of the material world, what we can do is expand the realm of representation. To achieve this, the artist creates an "indicator beyond perception" through a craft-like approach and a painterly sensibility.

At the foundation of the artworks lies the artist's intense "bodily labor." The process of cutting, processing, and intersecting metal plates, along with the repetitive handwork of coloring and assembly, requires considerable time and concentration. Square pieces, either cut or rounded, are intertwined and arranged on the front and back of the grid frames. As they conceal and reveal one another, they create multilayered spatial depth and gradations of shadows. The grids and the colors of chance within the works symbolize the inside and outside of perception.

The works placed in the exhibition hall reveal continuously changing relationships depending on the viewer's movement. Light passes through unfilled spaces, casting shadows, and even the gaps between beings or empty spaces are drawn into the relational network of the artwork. This formal and chromatic "unfamiliarity" created by the artist suspends our habitual urge to immediately define objects, serving as a new starting point of perception that allows us to gaze upon the layers of an unknown world.

The exhibition title, Continuum, suggests that there is never a final state in the relationships of the world. One part encounters another, and the whole formed by this encounter becomes a part of an even larger relationship, continuing endlessly. Through the works of Park YongHo, who moves away from a human-centric attitude to ask a new question, "What is inside me?", we hope the audience will also experience a meaningful time stepping beyond the familiar boundaries of perception to face a new horizon.
